China's first AIGC animated film The Reunion Order holded preview screening

China's first fully AI-generated (AIGC) animated film, The Reunion Journey, held a preview screening in Beijing.

The film revolves around the story of giant panda siblings Tuan Zai and Yuan Niu, following their journey of separation, search, and reunion. It focuses on contemporary themes, highlights simple yet profound values, and narrates a Chinese story from a global perspective, expressing sentiments of family, nation, and the concept of reunion. In the film, the finely detailed texture of the fur of Tuan Zai and Yuan Niu, as well as the realistic rendering of their facial muscles when they are expressing emotions, allows the audience to deeply appreciate the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology.

Ma Teng, the chief director of The Reunion Journey, explained that during the refinement of the film’s quality, aspects such as enhancing fur texture, ensuring smooth transitions, and adjusting lighting and shadow, all presented challenges during production. Each of these challenges was addressed step by step. The use of new technology aims to provide audiences with a refreshing viewing experience.

The Reunion Journey is jointly produced by China Media Group, Beijing New United Films and other organizations. As China's first fully AI-produced theatrical animated film, the production relies on the creative team's independently developed platform to break away from traditional linear filmmaking methods, adopting a multi-stage parallel production model that advances multiple processes simultaneously. Moreover, the use of artificial intelligence technology enables real-time iterative updates, compressing the production cycle of conventional animated films from 3-5 years down to just 1 year.
